(Half a) Down-winder

8.00 am. Dave, Andy, Adas and myself meet up in Lancing Beach car park with the aim of kiting the 7 miles downwind to Hove. Stopping on the way to pick up James who was going to be starting at Shoreham beach. The wind was a bit up and down so we paused a while at Shoreham before committing to making the dash across the harbour entrance as we didn't want to get caught half way across with too little wind. Of course, just after committing, the wind did drop. James managed to turn back to shore while the rest of us struggled and ultimately failed to keep our kites flying in the now amazingly still conditions. About half an hour later we had all made it to shore and were spread over about half a mile. Luckily we knew how to pack down in deep water and even more luckily, Adas and I ended up next to a cafe. Full English please.

That evening(Fri night) was Becky's birthday and in keeping with a tradition that must go back to the beginning of civilisation, we went to a pub. A very funny night until I got back to the girls house and got a shock.

Cathy was over from Perth and it was so good to see her. On the Saturday we went to her family home as she was flying out of the country the next day. Family and friends were present and the gathering was indeed divided into two: Cricket watchers who were inside watching the 3rd day of the 2nd Test at Edgbaston(the one we eventually won by 2 runs) and the girls who were outside.
